Pakistan Super League’s franchise Islamabad United sold for US$15 Million, owned by Venture Capital Leonine Global Sports a group of investors from UAE. The name Islamabad United was revealed on 3rd December and its logo were revealed on 21 December 2015 in an event by team’s director in a ceremony held at Polo Club in Islamabad. Pakistan’s capital Islamabad with the word united shows the unity among the people of the Pakistan.
Islamabad United have 11 national and 5 overseas players in their squad which includes the Iconic player All Rounder Shane Watson from Australia, Pakistan test Captain who will also be in charge of Islambad United Misbah ul Haq, Brad Hidden another Australian wicket keeper, Mohammed Irfan pacer, Andre Russell from West Indies, Samuel Badree also from West Indies and Sam Billings from England. The rest of the squad include Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Sami, Khalid Latif, Babar Azam, Imran Khalid, Kamran Ghulam, Umar Amin, Rumman Raees, Amad Butt. Three supplementary players have been added to the squad latter which includes Ashar Zaidi, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Siddiq.
Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones has been appointed as head coach of Islambad United. The sultan of swing Waseem Akram has been appointed as a team director.
The side has a strong bowling attack with Mohammed Sami, Mohammed Irfan, Andre Rusel and Shane Watson and in the middle order Misbah Ul Haq and Brad Hidden, while the top order looks a bit confusing as Islamabad United squad is lacking a genuine opener to carry the innings in the starting power play overs but they have a variety of young talents in their team who are all set to upset in their first opening match that will be played in Sharjah against Quetta Gladiators on Thu, Feb 04, 2016.
